What we are reading!

Bob and I are both readers, Bob a little less obssessively than me but at the end of the day or when we get a little break our whole family tends to curl up and grab a book. Our house tends to look even more disorganized than it is because every room of our house has books everywhere. They get dusty, fall apart and are easy for our little ones to make a mess with but I LOVE having books around. I truly believe that access to books at any time is one of the reasons that most of our children are avid readers! That and the fact that Auntie Ann indulges their every whim where books are concerned. Since their births Auntie Ann has marked every occasion with a special book or group of books. Peter has a special collection of autobiographies of famous black people in history. Molly has an entire collection of Fairy books that she reads over and over and over. Annie, Lizzie and Ellie have books for every holiday and on every subject and they read constantly. I thought it would be cool to document once in a while what we are all reading as a family.
Bob is reading the second book in the Hunger Ganes Trilogy. I don't typically like science fiction books but after Meghan recommended these books I couldn't put them down! Bob is having the same reaction - racing through them to find out what is going to happen!

I am currently reading this book about a father's journey trying to navigate the healthcare system to get optimal healthcare for his son with a heart condition. I truly liked the book but cannnot imagine one person that I could recommend it to. It is kind of depressing and very medically involved!

This is Annie's most recent favorite book. It is all about how the states get tired of being next to the same states all the time and decide to change it up a bit. She thinks it is hysterical when Connecticut moves to a warmer climate! I'm not sure how good it is going to be as far as geography lessons but its fun to hear her laugh when we read it!

Molly is reading one of my very favorite book in school right now. True to form Molly came home and read it in one day and now has to read it again with her class. Molly loves how Fern saves the pig and has been drawing all of the scenes from the book for me. While she reads this in school Molly is also reading the third Harry Potter book. I don't particularly love the HP books or think they are completely appropriate for her age level but Molly's teachers are really pressuring her to read more challenging books! She seems to be enjoying the books so I'm happy!

Peter is the one child in our family who really has to be pressured to read a book. Despite our no TV on school nights rule, Peter will find any excuse not to read. When he does read we try hard to make sure he has challenging but interesting books. He loves this Billionare series and seems to like the mystery aspect of the books. He tried the Harry Potter books but I don't think they held his interest!

Lizzie loves the Berenstain Bears books but this is absolutely her favorite! We have two copies of this book and she will often bring both copies so we have to read it twice!

Ellie is obssessed with this book latley. She can answer all of the questions and is so proud of herself!I love reading this book to her!

As a family we are reading The Weight of the Mass. I love this book that explains that the mass is more important than any gift a king can recieve. We try to choose one theme or bible story per week to work with the kids on so they are learning some religion from us at home, as well as, what they get in their CCD classes. Sometimes it works better than others but at least we are trying!
So this is what we are reading right now and I have to confess I loved this blog entry!
