A vacation that will live in infamy!

No one was looking forward to our last vacation more than I was. Sesame Place, Philadelphia and Dutch Amish Country - I had been dreaming of this vacation since we first introduced Elmo to the girls at 6 months old. We got an amazing deal thanks to a friend at work who got us half off of our entire package - a 5 day vacation for 7 at under $500 - we truly don't deserve it but we accepted it! I took a few days off from work and we headed off into the sunset with grand plans for fun, sun and relaxation at Sesame Place. We spent our first day there with some unusually cranky kids and found out why the next morning - the stomach bug hit Ellie and I with full force. It didn't take long for Molly, Annie and Peter to get it. So, all you Moms out there know what happens when the Mom and organizer of the vacation is suddenly incapacitated right? Everything falls apart! And by falling apart I mean figuring out what to feed the kids for breakfast was a brain teaser for Bob until I reminded him of the FREE breakfast in the lobby that we had already experienced 2 days previously! You see where I'm going with this. Poor Bob was the only one not feeling like garbage and he tried his very best to keep the spirits up of the well kids while caring for the sick Mom and kids. My bug seemed to last much longer and be more intense - probably because I am a WIMP about stomach bugs!

We did end up having a memorable trip with some very fun family moments and no matter what we were together and you can't beat that! As soon as we got home from vacation I headed off on the longest business trip I have taken since Peter was born - a whole 3 nights away from home in Washington, DC. It was a double header with a day and half of "HIV and oral healthcare" and a day and a half of "Healthcare for the Homeless". The 2nd conference was amazing and the work being done in this field was simply awe inspiring. I am very careful that whenever I leave the kids for a period of time it is for something that I consider worthwhile and these 2 conferences defintely qualified. I learned so much and got to meet people who are literally changing the world! I ached to be with the kids especially at night. I missed Peter's constant chatter and warm morning hugs just for Mommy. I missed Molly's "girl talk" with me and her constant smiles and helpfulness. I missed Annie's morning snuggles and incessant chatter about life and her take on it, I missed Elizabeth's sweet baby smiles and excitement over just about everything and I missed Ellie Bean's "Mornin, Mama!" with her quick wave and her happy dance! I have beautiful, bright, warm and loving kids and that is never more clear to me than when I am away for a while and come home - I am a lucky Mom!

Winding down!

The school year is winding down and we are starting to spend lots of time at the beach house. The kids ask every single morning about when we are leaving for the beach house - they assume it is an everyday thing. We are also preparing for our big trip to Sesame Place in Langhorne,  Pennsylvania. As you can imagine traveling with five children is not an easy task - in order to afford our trip I have to be ultra prepared or we can end up spending money on food and other things that get in the way of our fun. Packing for a trip is also a time of great stress in our house. For some reason Bob and I have never become the well oiled machine that we are in other situations. I end up being really cranky, he ends up doing everything wrong (at least according to me!) and the kids end up wishing we would just stay home! Well - I guess it isn't that bad but we do have our moments. That being said, we have had some memorable and sweet vacations and one of our favorites was to Philadelphia where we will visit again on this trip. Our kids are great travelers whether in the car, on buses, subways, trains or taxis - they are truly amazing about being flexible and just enjoying the ride - now Mommy and Daddy need to learn that same great attribute!

Last weekend we had a blast at the beach house with the entire family. Brendan was getting lots of attention from our twins but he didn't always enjoy it!

Birdie loved the little pink chairs - Auntie was loving his sweet smile!

Brendan loving being a big boy on the porch at the beach house.

Lizzie loved playing with the ball that Uncle Jeff bought for her - it was the coolest thing!

Lady Li was not loving her sunglasses but I did manage to get this one pictures with them.

"I'll show you, Auntie!"

Love those big blue eyes!

Not loving Auntie Mary's hat!

We had our traditional BounceU party to celebrate the end of the year with Peter and Molly's classmates. It was a roaring success - the kids loved it, the teachers came and Bob and I got to meet even more of the kids classmates who are all adorable!

The party room!

Easiest way to break up a party - have a kid vomit red fruit punch all over the table, floor and hallway!

Annie Bananie ready to head to Noah Webster for songfest 2011.

My beauty is ready to sing her little brains out!

Pete not loving music quite as much!

I had trouble finding Julia at first because she was literally standing in a ray of sunlight!

My girl loves to sing!

It was a very touching assembly. At the end they had all of the students grades pre-k through 6 stand up and they all sang Amazing Grace in honor of Mr. Jackson. Mr. Jackson lost his battle with cancer this year and had been a beloved part of the Noah Webster community. Hearing 400 little voices singing Amazing Grace followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of their friend was so beautiful and a very fitting tribute to a man who spent the majority of his time taking care of the building while singing!

Peter's grade - he looks so happy!

Annie Bananie came with me and she is SO ready for school!

Miss Kelly's Bounce U kids!
Group hug for Miss Kelley!

Molly worte a letter to Miss Kelley telling he how special she was! It was very sweet!
That's probably my last blog until after Sesame Place. The kids get out of school on Tuesday and we are headed straight out to Pennsylvania. I can't wait to get some time away with the kids - we are praying for some good weather! GNM - ILY!
